Not Without Spirit
A novel by Ruth Ann Cramer
From the Whuppin’ Woods of Kentucky to the shores of the Pacific—and back again.
Synopsis
It’s 1946. Age ten, secretly a rescuer, Tricia Mae Haskins, daughter of the ruthless and vindictive Kentucky Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan, is on the run! Having witnessed brutal injustice, torture and murder, she flees enemies intent on recovering the convicting evidence she carries. They’ve decreed she must be captured or killed before she reveals the secrets of the evil Whuppin’ Woods, the crimes and inner-workings of the Ku Klux Klan.
Striving to get free and live a fruitful life, she faces challenges spanning ten tumultuous years, with heavy bounties on her head, and assaults against her mind, body and spirit. Tricia must decide to love or hate; forgive or take revenge; stay silent and live a hidden life; or risk her life and lives of those she loves, should she choose to stand and testify.
NOT WITHOUT SPIRIT weaves a tapestry of beliefs in action, hope in desolation, and courage to endure and transcend. Though pursued by enemies to seeming defeat, Tricia’s life moves from brutal assaults to a triumphant conclusion of purpose and love.
Follow Tricia cross-country, and back again, as she pursues the love, family and freedom of spirit for which she so longs.
